2012 ECo Wrap-Up

As we wrap up the 2012 season, I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who is part of the ECo family.  I was very impressed with how hard the athletes worked this year,  how open the athletes were to adapting to new training, and how well the athletes performed.  ECo athletes are part of a group of incredible athletes who have chosen to train wisely, work hard, and redefine their limits.  The results speak for themselves.

Got enough Iron, man?

Endurance athletes are always looking for a competitive edge; that is why we put so much time and energy in to proper training and state-of-the-art equipment. For those who are serious about their performance (or, more importantly, are serious about their health), you may want to look beyond heart rate data, swim splits, and power numbers.  Specifically, you may want to have your iron levels tested.

Massage Therapy Attenuates Inflammatory Signalling

Massage therapy and molecular biology are not often used in the same story.  Until now.  Early February, researcher Justin Crane, PhD et al. published a paper that showed that 10 minutes of massage therapy had numerous positive molecular effects.  I summarize the paper and their findings below.

Sub 2-hour marathon? Here's what scientists think.

In August 2010, researcher Michael Joyner, MD and colleagues published a viewpoint in the Journal of Applied Physiology that asked “Who and When” will the 2-hour marathon barrier be broken?  This viewpoint was quickly followed by 45 responses from scientists around the world.
