Beetroot Juice and Betaine - worth a try?

Beet juice improves endurance performance?  Perhaps you have heard murmurings of this in the press recently.  But is there any merit to the claims that beets actually help us perform better?

Eat Right During the Metabolic Window: How to recover smart and fuel your training

What a great morning!  You got up early, had a strong long run, and finished in time to shuttle the kids to the game.   Rather than sitting down to eat, you opted for a swig of Gatorade and banana, with plans to eat lunch after the game.  The next day on your long bike ride, your legs were heavy, and you struggled through it.  Sound familiar?

Got enough Iron, man?

Endurance athletes are always looking for a competitive edge; that is why we put so much time and energy in to proper training and state-of-the-art equipment. For those who are serious about their performance (or, more importantly, are serious about their health), you may want to look beyond heart rate data, swim splits, and power numbers.  Specifically, you may want to have your iron levels tested.

Quinoa: The Power Grain!

We had the pleasure of having some friends over for dinner the other night. It was a beautiful spring evening with the flowers in bloom. Everyone was playing in the backyard and enjoying the perfect weather. I did not want to be stuck in the kitchen, so I whipped up a batch of Asian Quinoa in advance.

March is National Nutrition Month!

As the weather warms and many of you are increasing your training in preparation for upcoming races, this is a great time to focus on your nutrition. This year’s National Nutrition Month theme, “Get Your Plate in Shape”, is perfect for the Endurance athlete. Focusing on the basics of nutrition can improve your training, and benefit your health as well.
