2011: 1-hour PR at half Ironman, Half Marathon PR, Olympic Triathlon PR
After competing in several triathlons, both half ironman and Olympic distances, and following generic training plans, I decided to take my training to the next level. Joe helped design a training plan to fit my goals and around my race season. His training philosophy pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped boost my confidence and performance.
My target race was the Kansas 70.3. The level of training prepared me for that day. I was relaxed during the race and had fun. I was able to PR my half ironman time by over an hour. Along the way in preparing for Kansas, I also set PRs in the St Louis half marathon and the Memphis In May Olympic triathlon. All the early morning swim workouts and evenings of hill repeats paid off! After finishing Kansas, I set my sights on a different goal of completing my first marathon. Joe took a non-runner and turned me into a marathoner.
I learned to train with tired legs and to not give up. Joe was there to answer questions and to give support and encouragement. His plan was easy to follow and we were able to tailor it around my schedule. With the structure of the workouts and recording my results, I was able to see my progress along the way instead of waiting until race day.
I set several PR's this year but the highlight of the season came as added bonus to my original goal of Kansas 70.3. After completing Memphis In May, I qualified for the HyVee Age Group Championship. There I finished 4th in my age group. The past year was my best racing season and I can't wait to keep building on it with Joe's help.
