About ECo

Endurance Company, or ECo, was founded in 2010 by Joe Company, PhD. Before founding ECo, Joe coached at the high school and collegiate level, worked with Olympic training programs, and worked with a number of high-performance athletes and coaches.  Joe began consulting endurance athletes in 2002, but as he evolved in his education and experience,he wanted to make his expertise available to more people.  ECo is the product of Joe's experience.

ECo's inaugural year was extremely successful with numerous athletes exceeding their expectations and performing better than they imagined they could.  ECo worked with a number of athletes who were new to endurance sport, and many competed their first long-distance event (1/2 marathons, full marathons, 1/2 Ironmans, and Ironmans). ECo also works with veteran athletes, and many of these athletes reached USA Triathlon All-American, Honorable Mention status, and road-running honors.  Two highlights from 2011 included:  Angie Turner's performance at the Columbus marathon, which qualified for the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and Jackie Pearce's inaugural Ironman performance where she placed 8th overall female at Ironman Canada, qualified for Ironman World Championships in Kona, and qualified for her professional card.

In addition to world-class professional endurance coaching, athletes involved with Endurance Company are a part of Team ECo.  Some of the benefits of being part of Team ECo include: invitations to numerous training camps, educational opportunities, group training weekends, swimming, biking, running, and strength classes, and access to experts in nutrition, physical therapy, orthopedics, and sports psychology.

Joe's current role in the business is to facilitate connections and provide information and guidance to athletes. He does this through his own knowledge and the knowledge of his partners and connections. Joe personally consult/advise a few professional athletes, a RAAM team, and an open water endurance swimmer.  Joe limits his personal one-on-one clients to 5 to 10 athletes at any given time.

Currently, ECo coaches work with a wide variety of people, from elite endurance athletes to folks looking to lose weight and improve their quality of life.  In addition to performance coaching, ECo offers nutrition services for health and performance as well as sports psychology services.  The ECo athlete has access to comprehensive training: body, mind, spirit.  As ECo continues to grow, so will the website database, exercise information, and training options.

Joe's Journey

Athletic Journey: I was not always an endurance athlete. In fact, I didn't run unless I was sprinting.  Since my elementary school days, I competed in baseball, basketball, golf, cross country, and track. I enjoyed all of these sports, but I gravitated to running, partly because I was good at it, but also because I enjoyed the independence I felt while running. Unlike team sports, there was nobody other than myself to determine my fate in competition.
